Down-on-his-luck, Caine Miller is a convenience store attendant whose only claim to fame is keeping street crime from spilling into his place of business. Though he wants a better life for himself and the drugged-out mother he cares for, he can barely make rent on his crappy one-bedroom apartment. So, when a mysterious bar owner offers him a dream security job, making some serious bank, Caine thinks he’s finally caught a break.
Forced to kill her fiancé for betraying her and her undercover team of mutant justice-seekers, rich, debutant Lily Stewart has sworn off men. But when her roughly handsome coworker, Caine, literally vanishes while selflessly defending a friend, Lily has no choice but to take him under her wing. She can’t deny the attraction she feels for him, but awful memories of her lost love keep her emotions in check. Mostly.
Drawn together by forces outside their control, Caine and Lily team up, using their unique abilities to fight the crime overtaking their city. But when Caine unknowingly betrays Lily, they both become pawns in a dangerous game that may destroy their fragile, new love.
