Musical Mondays

The Climb, Miley Cyrus

Okay, so, I’ve posted this song before here, but I was thinking more about it. You might be thinking I have lost my mind posting a song by a teen pop sensation when I’m a thirty-six year-old-woman.

Well, you can’t deny these lyrics and I had to share them. Because, as a writer, I’m on a “climb” right? To be published some day if it’s God’s will. But I’ve always held the stance that it’s more than just getting published. Much more.

Check these lyrics out (below the video)

This part of the song is really what got me…. :

There’s always gonna be another mountain

I’m always gonna wanna make it move

Always gonna be an uphill battle

Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose

Ain’t about how fast I get there

Ain’t about what’s waitin’ on the other side

It’s the climb

So, to me, my writing isn’t just about getting published. Sure, that’d be great, I won’t lie. But I’ve only been on this road for about 18 months, and since then, I have met some fantastic people, have learned tons (both about the craft AND myself), and have drawn closer to Christ.

That’s quite a climb in itself if you ask me.

  1. My Mom loves this song. She dragged me to the Hannah Montana movie twice to see it… two days in a row. I should’ve just looked up the song on youtube for her. =)
And I agree, the lyrics are very good.

  2. KM–Thanks for stoppin’ by. Yep, this song is pretty true, isn’t it? Love the lyrics. She’s got it right. Ok, so her song writers have it right. . . LOL.

Lori–Nice to see you here. Glad you enjoyed the song.

Jessica–Well, the last name is Rush after all, right? LOL. ACFW conference was pretty awesome, wasn’t it?

Candee–I’m so glad you stopped by. It was awesome meeting you too! You’re most welcome, us writers have to stick together, right? Encourage each other during the wait/climb.

  3. It was so good to meet you over the weekend at the ACFW conference. Thanks for the encouragement you passed along in Denver as well as this song. It’s an uphill journey but the view from the top will be amazing when we get there.

  4. I love this song! Definitely inspirational, even if it was co-written and sung by a sixteen year-old. I totally agree with you on the “climb” part of the writing, too. Sometimes, I wory too much about the product of my efforts and forget to enjoy what I’m doing to get there. Good post!! :]

I respond to comments, so leave me a note....
