New Author Photo
I’ve been needing a new author photo for a while now. From the slew of pictures taken, we’ve narrowed it down to the top three.
And we need YOUR help in deciding which one to pick.
So, here are the three. I’d love to hear your comments about which you’d pick.

Number 2 is fine, but I think there are too many shadows on your face. I like the look of #1. 🙂
Michele
Are you kidding me? Hands down #1 – those eyes! Wow, so intense and riveting just like your books. Can I vote multiple times?
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Michele. I’m leaning toward #1….. 🙂
Ciara Knight
Love them. I voted, but it was difficult choosing. 🙂
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Ciara!

PS. I always liked your current photo. Photo number 2 reminds me of your current picture, but with less light on your face and shadowing.
Lynn Rush
Thanks!
Jill W
All three are beautiful photos, Lynn. I like number two the best. Your position looks so relaxed and natural. Plus, you look great in pink!
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Jill!

#1 is the best of the three. Being a photographer I’m inclined to tell you why. =)))
1. Your head is tilted ever so slightly (better composition)
2. It’s zoomed out more. This coupled with your head tilting gives your face a longer (nicer/thinner) appearance. It also helps by giving us more of your hair to look at. This also creates a longer/leaner appearance. Photo #3 cuts off too much of your hair. Plus, there is too much space above your head in the photo. Makes you look shorter than you actually are. Perception is everything. =))
Photo #2 – the light is way too harsh, and the prickly pear is too busy. I’d go for a calmer, if not more open, scenic desert background.
Sorry for the long winded approach to my favorite. =)
Lynn Rush
Love this. I’m glad you took the time to share why, Mike. Thank you!
Kat
I’d go with two. I’m not a fan of the straight-on mug shot.
Lynn Rush
I like the tilted to the side look, too. I just wish there weren’t shadows all over my face 🙁
DJ Weaver
I like #2 but the sun is too bright and kinda shadows your face too much. #3 is really the clearest and I think it is the best of the three!
Lynn Rush
Thanks, DJ!
Jillian Chantal
I like the 3rd one as it is a closer view of the 1st one. I like close ups – a personal preference. I like #2 as a nice photo of you but I think the more direct look is better on a book jacket. You’re beautiful in all of them!
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Jillian. I like the close-up version as well. 🙂
Lynn
While I like the 3/4 turn of your body better in two, the lighting in Number One is much, much better.
Lynn Rush
Thanks Lynn. I like the side sitting pose, too. That’s in my current photo. But the blasted face-shadows wreck #2 I think.
Lisa Kessler
I like #2 because you enjoy so many outdoor activities, it just seems like it suits your personality more… 🙂
They’re all nice though!
Lisa 🙂
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Lisa! I appreciate your comment!! Most of my novels are set in the desert, so I had been hoping to have a cactus in my photo. 🙂
Lyndsey Davis
All three are attractive. #1 is too far away to see clearly. The same shot– photo #3 is closer and prefered. Even closer would be better as it would show the face more clearly. While #2 is a darling photo, the face is half shadowed and doesn’t have a professional look. For any website, avatar, book cover, etc. clarity is desired. The clearer the better. Fans want to see you.
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Lindsey. Your feedback is helpful. 🙂
Marne
I like #2 the best because you look more relaxed and approachable in it. Maybe it’s the pink shirt 😉 Ya gotta love pink. And that cactus is cool. They are all good pics, though. Good luck deciding (although #2 has a lead on the others)
Lynn Rush
Pink IS good, isn’t it? 🙂 Thanks!
Lindsay
I’m with danicaavet. You look relaxed while in the other two you seem tense.
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Lindsay. There were some HUGE cactus out there while shooting pictures on this desert location. Beautiful, but the sun was an issue for sure. 🙁
Kat Heckenbach
Number one–Your eyes really stand out, which is what makes it top number three. I love the feel of number two, but your face is in the shadows.
All three are beautiful, though :).
Lynn Rush
Thanks for your input, Kat. It’s nice to have an artist’s perspective. You have a keen and talented eye!!
danicaavet
I love #2. You look comfortable and relaxed. Great pictures, Lynn!
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Danica. The shadows didn’t distract you?
Hildie McQueen-Bennett
I like #3, it’s a nice close up!
Lynn Rush
I like the close up part, too. Cuts a bit off my hair, but it’s close and that’s good for an author photo. 🙂
Kendall Grey
I’m with Laura. I voted for #1. Love that pic!
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Kendall.
lbdiamond
I like the background of the second one, but there’s too much shadow in your face, so I pick the first one. 😉
(Tho, they all look great!)
Lynn Rush
Thanks, LBDiamond. I agree about the shadows.
Savannah Chase
I like them all….You look really great…
Lynn Rush
You’re sweet, Savannah. 🙂
Rachel Firasek
Looks like everyone is loving the cactus. That’s a great shot, but I still think it’s too bright. Dang sun. LOL! All so pretty. You’ll do fine with whichever you choose. Have a great day!
Lynn Rush
Yeah, I love the cactus background, but I’m having trouble with the shadows over my face. 🙁 Darn desert sun!
Rita Garcia
I loved the way your eyes show up in the first picture. All three are really great shots.
Lynn Rush
Thanks!!
