The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it. ~Chris Pine

*****

I used to teach stress management back in my former life as an addictions therapist, and the most common example I used to use was this:

You’re out driving and someone seriously cuts you off, possibly to the point where you nearly get into an accident.

How many of you would have thought that person was a jerk, inconsiderate, or something else not so nice? And then you’re so ticked off at that driver you yelled at them through an open window, or given them the one-finger wave?

Your heart is racing, palms sweaty….

What if you change your perspective of this same event?

A driver cuts you off, but what if you stop and “re-think” that event. What if it was a woman driver and she’d just found out her kid or husband was brought to the ER with life-threatening injuries? Or a man who just got the phone call that confirmed he has cancer and will die soon.

Changes how you react, doesn’t it?

You can’t control other people & what they might do to you. The only control you have in any situation is how you perceive it.

My challenge to you is to take the less stressful perception. It’s easier on your heart and soul.

Stay strong, my friends.
