• Friday Photo

    My favorite part of the day is dawn. Specifically before dawn, because I love watching the sun rise. For whatever reason, I find that time of day and that particular sight most inspirational to me.

    I took this picture on one of my morning bike rides a while ago. Yep, I stopped my workout, dug out my camera (yeah, I don’t have a phone that can take pictures very well–I’m lame) and snapped this picture.

    Now, anyone who follows my facebook or twitter posts knows I spend a lot of time on my bike and often mention how it helps me think through books, plotting, and so on.

    This past weekend was no exception.

    I got to see a spectacular sunrise and start planning out the sequel to Wasteland. Four and a half hours on the bike allows for a lot of time to think things through, that’s for sure.

    What’s your favorite time of day?

  • One Year Later . . .

    Well, this past Labor Day weekend marked the one year anniversary of The Crash. You can click here for the story, but for the most part, it was an ugly bike crash.

    And on this past Saturday, it marked a year since it happened.

    So, how did I celebrate?

    Yep, you guessed it. Went for a bike ride.

    75-mile bike ride to be exact.

    I even went past the spot where I crashed, and the fire department that came to my aid so quickly.

    Another little perk of taking a long bike ride this past weekend was that I started getting some ideas for the sequel to Wasteland. I just finished the third book to Frostbite last week and am in the mood to keep another series going.

    So, we’ll see where that takes me, right?

    How’d you celebrate over the Labor Day weekend? Hopefully with didn’t include any cracked helmets!!

  • Throwback Thursday–Tainted Cadence Style

    Hey, everyone. Rachel Clark here.

    I’m glad I didn’t get to post until today. Cuz after reading about Ashley, Trinity, and Dakota, I guess I don’t feel so weird. I seriously thought I was having a psychotic break when I started seeing red auras around people who would then bleed shortly thereafter.

    I mean, really? Red auras? Blood? Mutant. . .

    But then Ashley with her telepathy, Trinity with her wings, and then Dakota with her electricity. . . I seem to fit right in here.

    I’ve been following Lynn’s blog, back when it was called Light of Truth, for just under a year now. My favorite is Throwback Thursdays.

    They’re so much fun.

    And, since I love road biking, almost as much as Lynn does, I had to bring it up here!

    The bikes back in the Greg LeMond days were TANKS!

    Seriously. They weighed in around 22 pounds, and that was for a good one!

    Oh, but now it’s all about how light can it be. They come in around 15 pounds.And let me tell you, when you’re going up hill. . . every pounds helps.

    Nice and light in 2010

    Well– not for my better half, Brandon. He’s got freakishly HUGE legs.

    He zoomed by me like it was nothing that first time I met him. Then that semi had to go and hit him-er-sort of hit him. . .

    But you’ll have to wait for the book!

    🙂

    Okay-So, have you been getting entries into the great big giveaway? $25.00 at Barnes and Noble is a pretty sweet prize, you know?

    Leave a comment here and you get an entry, but if you go over to the MY NOVELS and click Frostbite then leave a comment, I’ll tell Lynn to put your name in the hat for that one too. So, TWO entries for today!

    Time’s running out, contest ends tomorrow when David shows up on the blog to close out the week.

    Can’t wait to see what a 450 year old half demon will have to say. . .

  • Where do you ponder?

    Where do you like to sit and ponder?

    Overlooking an ocean or lake?

    I’ve done that and loved it.

    ~~~
    How ’bout watching a sweet sunset.
    I’ve seen plenty of those and totally love them. Sunrises work great too for me.
    ~~~

    If you’ve been visiting the Light of Truth blog for any time at all, you’ll know I’ve spent a bunch of time up on Sedona, Az.

    I have done a couple writer retreats up there and pounded out some serious words on a few of my novels.

    I mean, with a view like this, how could you NOT be inspired, right?

    The beautiful red rocks.

    The thrill of a great hike or trail run.

    It’s among my top choices of where to go to write.

    Some of us have favorite chairs we like to sit in. Heck I have a favorite sweatshirt I love to wear when I’m writing.

    But where do you like to go to think? You know, to just think things through, whether you’re a writer or not.

    Along with those mentioned above, another big one for me is my road bike.

    Yep, the green, black and white Jamis and I have spent many hours on the road together.

    I’ll pound out anywhere from 30-70 miles on that thing just thinking. It can be about anything, but mostly, it’s about what kind of funky situations I can throw at my characters. Plots. Conflicts. Tension.

    There’s just something about being outside seeing the sites, busting my lungs, and getting fresh air to fuel the ideas.

    This past Friday, I got another story idea. I didn’t necessarily want one quite yet since I’d just finished a novel a couple weeks ago. I was actually looking forward to some rest. But I can’t always control when the ideas come, that’s for sure.

    Since it was just a little “trickle” of an idea, I figured I’d spend some time thinking on it to see if it went anywhere.

    So, this past Saturday, I spent a couple hours in the saddle. Thirty miles later. . . the little trickle turned into a full blown idea.

    Even thought of the names while on the ride. Trinity and Jayden.

    Then, later that day, when I sat down at the computer, the flood gates opened.

    So. . . we’ll see where the story goes.

    ~~~
    I’d love to hear about your favorite place (or places) to sit and ponder!
  • The Weekend
    ~~~

    Well, it’s my 37th birthday today . . . and my present to myself is

    . . .

    a 100-mile bike ride. Then, I’m going to eat all the birthday cake I want!

    Catch ya later!

  • What’s your passion?

    Passion

    This past Saturday, I had a lot of time to think while I sat on my road bike for four hours and thirty-seven minutes.

    Yep, you read that right. 4 hours 37 minutes.

    I’m trying to do my first 100-mile bike ride ever on November 28th (my 37th birthday) and this past weekend, on Saturday, I cycled further than I ever have–83 miles.

    During that time, fighting through the wind trying to slow me down, I thought about a lot of things, but one that popped up a few times was passions.

    Yeah, I write romance novels, but it wasn’t THAT kind of passion I was thinking about. 🙂

    For example, I worked at the bookstore after I’d done that long bike ride, and my friend, Gary, asked me what I’d done that day.

    “Oh, I went on a bike ride,” I said.

    “Oh yeah? How far’d you go?”

    I grinned, heat instantly flaming my cheeks. “Uhm, well–”

    “What? Seventy?”

    “No, a few more.”

    “How far?”

    “83 miles.”

    “Why on earth would you do that?”

    I get that question a lot. I just smiled and chuckled.

    But really, why would I do that? It’s a valid question, right?

    Well, exercise is a passion of mine. Same with my hubby. Sure, some would argue that we teeter the line of exercise and insanity, but nevertheless, it’s a passion of ours. It’s time to de-stress, enjoy our city, and stay fit.

    I love to have goals to shoot for, and what better goal to have than on my 37th birthday to ride my bike 100 miles? (Hey, then I can eat as much birthday cake as I want, right?)

    Just like a goal for the NaNo writers out there to write 50,000 words in a month. Or, triathletes to see if they can swim 2 miles, then bike over a hundred, then run 26 miles.

    I guess if you find something you love, go for it.

    So, what’s your passion?
