The Grand Canyon
Ever been to see the Grand Canyon? Ever try hiking it?
I’d been to see it once before, but never ventured into the canyon for a hike.
My dad, who loves to hike, climb mountains, bike, you name it….., asked me to go on a little hike with him.
So, I made the trip up to Sedona and he carted me up to the Grand Canyon. The day started out so beautiful. A little chilly according to my desert-sun-loving-skin-but beautiful nonetheless.
We started at Bright Angel Trail, jogging down the steep trail. All the while, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking, we have to come back up this, so pace yourself.
Indian Gardens, which is 4.5 miles down, is a common resting point. So we had some sandwiches and admired God’s beauty for a while. Saw a cool Mule Deer.
Then we started up the trail back to the South Rim.
And that’s when the hard work began.
Holy moly that’s a steep climb! We jogged what we could, but for the most part, we hiked.
Sure, I can go out and ride 50-60 miles on a road bike any ol’ day, but climbing and hiking? Yeah, those are muscles I don’t use so much.
Well, don’t use ever.
And let me tell you…those never-used muscles sure were tired by the time we reached the rim. But, we made it in good time, and I had a blast spending the day with my Dad. It’s a memory I’ll always treasure.
Now, the next day . . . oh yeah. . . My leg muscles were NOT too happy with me.
So, that earned me a couple days rest.
But what an experience. Such beauty that I could never describe with words, so here are some pictures.
Have a great day, everyone!

That looks great! We went last summer, but our daughter is still too young for us to hike below the rim. I hope we’ll be able to do that next time.
