THEN AND NOW THURSDAYS

Have you ever sat and reminisced about what was popular when you were a kid? Well…. “Then and Now” Thursdays is right up your alley.

When I was a kid, Atari was the thing to have. We didn’t have one, but my best friend while growing up, Lori, did. We used to play it a lot. I remember astroids the most. Remember that game? The brown little box and those clunky joy sticks.

Oh, and how about Donkey Kong?

The graphics….Oh, I just crack up thinking about it.

But NOW DAYS….whoo-hooo.

What was your favorite video game when you were growing up? How ’bout now?

My favorite is STILL astroids. My sweet hubby and I bought an OLD Atari off Ebay a few years ago and it came with some old games. Oh, it’s such a great time walking down memory lane when we play it.

  1. Believe it or not, I still have a working Atari system at my house, and my kids — especially my youngest — LOVE playing with it. (I think it’s because it doesn’t require the same small motor skills as the more advanced games.)

I loved Megamania, Frogger, Space Invaders, Entombed, the Journey Escape game (designed in honor or the rock band Journey).

I loved the first Nintendo System, too. My favorite video game of all time is Mario 3.

But Sonic & Knuckles on the Sega system is fun, too.

Ha! And here I thought I wasn’t much of a gamer.

    Good post today!

  2. We had an Atari.

    Good times!

We had this one game that my brother “borrowed” (meaning never gave back) from his friend called Rampart. You could play against each other or the computer.

Anyway, you each had a castle that you had to protect, using tetris-like pieces to build a wall. The goal was to build up your wall and fortify your castle in a given amount of time, and then try to shoot the other person’s down and kill him.

I think that was my favorite.
I’m a big fan of anything tetrisy. I like those kinds of puzzle games better than the quest ones.

  3. Centipede!!! I loved that game. In 7th grade, Mikey and I at the arcade, I could have played that thing 24/7!!! I got into space invaders some too. That was only xx years ago! hee hee — Oh, it seems like another life.

  4. I remember sneaking over to my friend’s house in the middle of the night, risking being grounded and worse, just to play…Pong. We’d play for hours, concentrating so hard that we’d both break out in a sweat. Best two games out of three. One of us would finally win, which would bring charges of cheating, which would result in a wrestling match there on his living room floor, which would wake his parents, which…well, you get the idea.

    All that over Pong.

  5. Centipede, I almost forgot about Centipede. HA!! Great one.

Billy, thanks for stoping by. I can just envision the “you cheated” wrestling matches, that’s hilarious.

  6. Oh, my.

My first career was in sales and marketing, and for most of that time I worked for companies which published computer games.

In my attic I have an Atari, a Commodore 64, a Sinclair Spectrum and a stack of games to play on them, most of which are so bad they won’t even run, let alone be fun. Dreadful stuff–but happy days.
