THEN AND NOW THURSDAYS

Have you ever sat and reminisced about what was popular when you were a kid? Well…. “Then and Now” Thursdays is right up your alley.

Do you remember DOS? That annoying little cursor blinking in the top left hand corner of a minuscule black screen? Oh my, how they’ve changed over the years, huh?

A lot of us spend our lives plucking away at computers day in and day out. And if your day job doesn’t include the glowing screen or hum of a CPU, then possibly at home, after work, you might hop on and check out the vast world wide web.

Heck, maybe you even check out this blog once in a while? **smile**

Anyway, I thought a fun “Then and Now” would be computers.

Check this computer out…. can we say “BIG?”

ENIAC
ENIAC

It occupied 1,800 square feet and used 18,000 vacuum tubes. It weighed in at 50 tons. OMG. If you’re a history buff, CLICK HERE for more details.

Or how ’bout this one:

IBM PC from 1981
IBM PC from 1981

But now, they’re so sleek

Macbook Air

This is .16 to .76 inches thick and only three pounds! CLICK HERE If you want details

Can you believe from 50 tons to three pounds? Wow, now that’s truly a “THEN AND NOW” isn’t it?

So, what’s the first computer you ever had?

Remember: “Shall we play a game?” That was my first intro to computers. In high school, we had a “radio shack computer”. In geometry and we did some basic stuff with it. I loved the programming aspect, but no one else had one, so I didn’t see it again ’til the 90s. I can’t wait for them to get even smaller!!! Have you seen the one the reporter for the FBI has on the movie: Paycheck?

We got our first computer in the early nineties.

Ah, how well I remember good old DOS! For the record, DOS still exists, and my Genius Nerd Hubby uses it for something or another genius-nerdy fairly regularly, I think.

Crazy how much technology has progressed just in the last 30 years… can you imagine what it will be like thirty years from now?!

Our first computer looked almost exactly like that IBM PC from 1981. We got it when I was in 8th grade. I still remember fondly the floppy disc drive with the little plastic switch.

My first computer was an old secondhand HP that had the first edition of Windows on it. The “T” on the keyboard was busted and the mouse hardly worked, but I would swear I was Matthew Broderick in Wargames.
