This Writer’s Journey . . .

Writing is a journey, one I truly love and enjoy, but it can sometimes feel rather lonely. Hour after hour, alone, at the computer, pouring your heart and soul into each word. But I’ve learned I’m not alone. In fact, I’ve been blessed to be in contact with some amazing people, both writers and non-writers.

I want to share a bit of that with you. Each week I’ll be spotlighting someone I’ve come in contact with during my journey. Thanks for stepping along side of me—all of you—during this exciting time!

I met Kendall Grey through the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal chapter of RWA. There’s this critique group called The Mud Puddle. A bunch of us writers hang out there and critique each others work.

I had posted some of my pages to be reviewed and Kendall grabbed hold of it. Let me tell ya, I sure learned a lot from her. She’s an awesome writer. Her critiques are balanced with brutal honesty, sprinkles of humor, and great suggestions for improving the craft.

EXACTLY what I look for in a crit partner!

What I love most is her personality and zest for life. She’s wicked funny and loves her family. I’m so glad to know her.

  1. Wow! Congratulations, Danica. That’s so awesome. Can’t wait to hear more about your novel.

Thanks, Lynn for spotlighting me on your blog today. I’m humbled and honored. You’re a fantastic writer, crit partner, and friend. Let’s keep pushing each other and make 2011 our year! 🙂

  2. The FF&P Chapter has been a Godsend for me. If it wasn’t for that amazing group of writers, I don’t think I’d have finished my first manuscript much less the other three. I’ve met such wonderful people through the chapter and the RWA that I’m thankful everyday for their support and knowledge.

    • You’re right. I love her mix of humor, too. She has me in stitches, laughing, yet she’s critiquing it so brutally honest—the stories she edits can’t help but get better!

  3. Hi, lbdiamond! I think you have to be honest with people, otherwise, you’re not really helping them.

Rachel, you are too kind. I’m glad I met you and Lynn! There are so many great writers at the Mud Puddle. I keep seeing their names in contest finals, and I believe their success has a lot to do with the quality of feedback from MP crits. 🙂

  4. Kendall was one of my first welcomes into the mudpuddle last summer. She’s brilliant…really, brilliant. I love her brutal honesty and the time that she puts forth to help others. She’s a kindred spirit and I’m glad to know her. Lynn, thanks for sharing all of these wonderful poeple with us! Hope to you guys sprinting tonight.
