Kind words…
One morning over the weekend, I woke up to the most beautifully written email from someone who was reading Wasteland. As I read the note, I cried.
And I mean cried.
I’m not going to post the note I received, I’ll keep that for myself, near and dear to me. But to read that something I’d written impacted someone in a positive way…well, it really just made me smile. Made my heart smile.
It’s amazing the power of a kind word. An encouraging word. It can lift someone up so high they have to look down to see heaven.
Now, did that person know her email would affect me so profoundly?
Probably not.
Did she know that I’d been feeling a little anxious about the upcoming release of Wasteland and how people would receive it?
Probably not.
Regardless. She took the time to send a letter of hope and encouragement, and it was at exactly the moment I needed to read it.
Then I started thinking, when’s the last time I encouraged someone? Took the time to send someone a special note?
Too long.
Don’t wait another minute, you just never know how much that person might have needed to hear an encouraging word.

Kind words build a person up, they encourage, sustain and strengthen, I don’t know why we don’t do it as often as we should. It’s not that hard, I try to send notes on occasion, you have motivated me to do so more often. Thank you for sharing.

How awesome! I totally agree – you never know what kind of day a person is having. It pays to be kind. If nothing else, it makes you feel good to say/do something nice for someone else, so you both benefit!

You’re so right. There was this story once. I can’t remember where I heard it, but it was near Christmas. There was a bus filled with people. A man at the back sat, slumped, his two kids causing havoc nearby and people were getting annoyed. One guy was fuming. The man apologized and said, “I’m sorry. Their mother just died today and we’re a bit out of sorts.”
Talk about touching. You just don’t know what the person you come across has experienced that day. All everyone else saw was a man not controlling his kids and his kids were acting out, disturbing everyone. Very touching. I wish I could remember where that story was from.

*big hug* I understand completely. I’ve been very lucky to get wonderful e-mails from readers about my books. Each and every time I do, I get emotional because they took the time to tell me how much they enjoyed my work. It really does make all of the hard work and mental upheaval worth it when you read kind words like that.

I know. It’s the time they took to both read the book and write the note that means almost as much as the words!!!!

This is what it’s all about. That one note of encouragement that keeps us going.

It’s totally true, Traci. The power of words….
