MUSICAL MONDAYS

Turning Japanese, by The Vapours.

***

Musical Mondays is about our favorite music. If you’re a writer, does it inspire your creativity? Cure writer’s block? If you’re not a writer, what do your favorite songs do for you?

***

Ok, this song cracks me up. Have you seen the video? I mean, he’s just swinging a sword around like a baseball bat talking about a picture. **LOL**

It turns up in a couple sweet movies, like, Sixteen Candles and Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. They did hit #3 in the UK Singles Chart and #36 in the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart (Source: Wikpedia). It’s just hilarious.

So, what are you listening to these days?

I know who it is Charlie! (I actually knew it before you said purple.)

“Baby, he’s a STAR!” that drives a “Little Red Corvette” and partied like it was “1999.” He only wants to see you laughing in odd-colored rain and wears a “Raspberry Beret.”

Yes, I find music very inducive to creativity. I usually listen to instramental soundtracks while I write (LadyHawke, LORT, Passion of the Christ). But I have a few vocalist songs I listen to if the words relate to my scenes — like Evanescence.

What am I listening to now. Christmas music — the season went past too fast, so I still have a mix of my fav songs I play in car everyday.

Fun post! I don’t remember the song, but the 80’s beat is familiar, huh? Let’s make a music video! I’d love to dress up and dance around – oh and yes! a sword!
I’m really liking Breaking Benjamin lately. They keep coming up on my Pandora.
I’m loving the vibe of the Cardinals – It’s fun to be in the city of a winning team.
    Great look, post, blog 😉

Here is music trivia, you know that song “Stand Back” by Stevie Nicks, was popular around 82-83? Its got a great synthesizer hook to it. Do you know what artist played the keyboard for Stevie?

    Thanks, Colin!!
    Belinda–Oh yeah, David Crowder rocks.
Billy–thanks, glad you like the new look. YEAH CARDS!!!!!!!!! Whoo-Hooo. But, I must admit, I did NOT WATCH one minute of it. LOL. I know, I’m naughty. BUT, I was wrapped up in my new WIP…just hit 71,000 last night. No time for football. **smile**
Rosslyn–Yeah, this is a funky little song, isn’t it? Just fun and toe-tapping.
Kat—Ha…got one stuck in your head, did I? This one…yeah, not so much. It’s just got a fun beat. Thanks, I’m glad you like the new look

Hahahaha I’m turning Japanese oh yes… LOL. Now, I’m going to have this stuck in my head all day.

There might have been hidden meaning behind this song, but they say there’s hidden meaning behind Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax” too. (That song is on my iPod workout file. BTW.)

I rarely worry about a musician’s intentions behind a song. If it’s got a good groove, I’ll listen. But turning japanese? I don’t know.

Love the new look by the way!

  • Rosslyn

OK – I can’t remember ever hearing this song, though I’ve seen the movies you mention. It does remind me of the girl from whom I used to bum rides to school. She was a fan of The Cure and The Violent Femmes, and rides in her car were my chief exposure to alternative music as a freshman/sophomore. The I switched schools and heard *plenty* of alternative stuff my junior and senior years!!

    Love the new look here!

I, too, remember this song. And no, I have no idea what it means. But some songs are like that, fun with no real meaning.

And hey, how ’bout them Cardinals!

  • Belinda

I do remember this song but I have no idea what it means. It’s crazy.
Yes, music does inspire my writing. I love music. Right now I”m writing about two musicians. I”m listening to David Crowder Band’s CD Remedy while working alot.
