MUSICAL MONDAYS–sports edition
Welcome to sports week. I thought it appropriate to dedicate this week’s blog posts to sports, considering we just celebrated the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Musical Mondays is about our favorite music. If you’re a writer, does it inspire your creativity? Cure writer’s block? If you’re not a writer, what do your favorite songs do for you?

What better song to celebrate sports week with than: Gonna Fly Now, by Bill Conti.

Ok, yeah, the song without the video wouldn’t be that motivational, right? But, you have to admit, the video PLUS the music is pretty amazing.
I mean, we all remember him running up the steps then turning and raising fisted hands into the air in celebration, right? Oh my goodness. Or how ’bout the part where he’s punching frozen meat? Or the one handed push ups. I love those parts.

Ok, this song just pumps me up. Any songs out there that do that for you?

That’s awesome!
For my son’s fourth birthday- FOURTH mind you- my dad bought him one of those little punching bags, and built him a frame on which to mount it. Then, he bought my son the entire Rocky collection (excluding the latest Rocky Balboa) and made him watch the training scenes so he’d know what to do with his new toy.

I love this song! I used to play basketball and we would put this song on to pump us up before games.
We also used to play “I’ve Got the Power” by C & C Music Factory. Remember that song? At one time, it seemed like they played it at every sports game during the mid-nineties.

Travis: OH YEAH, Rocky is a classic. Whoo-Hoo
Alison: Oh yeah, EYE OF THE TIGER. Another great motivational song. SWEET!
JC: Oh yeah, You’re in PA! SWEET. You should be proud, girl! 🙂
Billy: I’ll go check that song out.

I had to download “Eye of the Tiger” after that. Bring it on!

Rocky is truly a classic, in almost every way possible. Thanks for the memory!

Oh my gosh — too funny! I knew Rocky was filmed in Philly, but I’ve never seen it, so I was watching that clip with my mouth agape thinking — oh my gosh, that’s 9th Street, oh my gosh — that’s the bridge I’m on everyday. Hmmm, I’m feeling rather proud to be a Philadelphian at the moment.

Gonna Fly Now? Classic. Who doesn’t work out with that song somewhere in the back of their mind?
I’d also vote for Boom, by P.O.D.
