• CSO–Valentine’s Day Style….

    Okay, so for Cinema Sound Off today we’re doing something different. Usually we head into the wonderful Harkins Theatres to review a new release to let you know if it’s worth your while…

    But today, for Valentine’s Day we watched a blast from the past sweetheart movie.

    SIXTEEN CANDLES

    **le sigh**

    I tell you, it has to be one of my faves out there, you know? Such innocence. Awkward teen moments. Sweet, Sweet love.

    **le sigh**

    Yes, I sighed again. Might be overkill, but that’s okay, I just think this movie is so cute.

    Here are some fun parts

    Synopsis from IMDB

    The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name.

    My Review

    Wow! I felt like I’d run a marathon after watching that movie. Then again, I LOVE ACTION. This nearly bordered on too much, but not quite. I have a HIGH level (from anyone who’s read my writing can attest…I love action!!!)

    Every turn there was something blowing up, or falling, or just….something happening. It was awesome.

    There were a couple of times I lost track of who was who and what was happening…in part because of the overwhelming action…but that’s okay. It wasn’t too bad at all.

    Loved this.

    So…as you might guess my rating is ….

    5 tickets - A must see. Buy a ticket for everyone.

    Have any of you guys seen it? What are your thoughts?

    Synopsis from IMDB:

    The Quileute’s close in on expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses a threat to the Wolf Pack and the towns people of Forks

    My Review:

    Oh wow. I really liked this. When the movie release was nearing, I started wondering where they’d cut it off…and I had an idea.

    I guessed it. I won’t say where in case you haven’t seen it, but it was totally predictable–BUT TOTALLY good. They ended the movie RIGHT where they needed to. Got me all ready for the next one.

    This first part was really just a set up to the second part as far as I was concerned. I really got the sense of their love story, which is cool with me (I mean, I am a romance writer, you know–LOL).

    This one seemed to follow the book more in my opinion. I remember while reading the book how she jumped into Jake’s POV and I was like, wait, huh? And I could kinda tell that here in the movie, too.Smile

    Compared to the other movies, the action scenes seemed better as well as the special effects. And, wow, how they did the birth scene and stuff. Right on. I’m so excited for the next part to come out to see how they wrap everything together compared to the books.

    I’ll have to give Breaking Dawn Five Tickets:

    Synopsis from IMDB:

    The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.

    My review:

    Okay, so, the action ROCKED. Kind of expected that, though, right? I came into the movie hearing, “There’s no plot” and “Not sure what I just saw, but it was good.”

    I’m pretty sure of what I saw, and I didn’t really like it. I found a bit of a plot, but again, I didn’t like it.

    We have the main character, Shia LaBeouf, who is a fine actor, just not one of my favorites. In the beginning he’s screaming his head off like a little girl but then magically morphs into this amazing super-dude who can catch falling women with a quick snatch of his hand, skid under cars and kick the crap out of dudes twice his size.

    We have the heroine, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, walking around in skimpy outfits that left little to the imagination as to what was beneath the flimsy fabric. What was her role in the movie again? Other than to be a beauty on Shia’s arm….I’m not quite sure.

    I thought the humor was distracting again as I did with the last movie. Really, the only thing that rocked was the action, and it flirted with being over done. It just went on and on and on.

    Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE special effects, kick-butt action scenes, but a girl can only take so many in a movie. Jeepers.

    Sorry guys, I have to give the movie Two Tickets:

    2 tickets - See it, but by yourself on dvd

    X-Men: First Class

    ~~~~
    Synopsis fromIMDB
    In 1962, Charles Xavier starts up a school and later a team, for humans with superhuman abilities. Among them is Erik Lensherr, his best friend… and future archenemy.
    My Review
    I was pretty stoked to see this movie.
    All day I watched as stellar reviews came in over the airwaves, increasing my excitement tenfold.
    And, the movie lived up to my expectations.I’m a huge fan of the X-Men movies.I own them all and have watched them several times.
    I loved the depth of this new one. How it answered so many questions about how the school was formed, how he got into his wheelchair, things like that.
    The action scenes and special effects were great. I think they picked the perfect people to play Charles and Erik.
    Oh, and the cameos from other actors was really funny. Unexpected and nicely done!
    So….I have to give it:
    5 tickets: A must see. Buy a ticket for everyone.
    This week we opted to watch a DVD, and we chose RED.
    Synopsis from IMDB:
    Frank (Bruce Willis) is retired, bored and lonely living off his government pension in a nondescript suburb in an equally nondescript house. The only joy in Frank’s life are his calls to the government pension processing center when he gets to talk to his case worker Sarah (Mary-Louis Parker). Sarah is as bored and lonely as Frank and marks her conversations with the unknown Frank and her spy novels as the only things fun in her life. When something in Frank’s past forces Frank back into his old line of work and puts an unwitting Sarah in the middle of the intrigue, Frank and Sarah begin a journey into Franks past and the people he used to work with. Like Frank they are all RED … Retired Extremely Dangerous
    My review:
    Well…although the special effects were good, and there was a lot of kick butt action, which I usually am quite a sucker for, this movie flopped for me.
    The characters seemed over the top weird. Bruce Willis did a good job. Stoic, flat affect…I totally bought that he was bored. But gosh I couldn’t stand the character, Sarah. I literally wanted plug my ears and sing La-La-La-La-La so I couldn’t hear her talk.
    Okay, that was overly dramatic. Sorry.
    I just couldn’t connect with this movie. It wasn’t horrible, just not one I plan on buying or ever watching again.
    My Rating:
    2 tickets – See it, but by yourself on dvd
