• The Bribe: Frostbite Week

    HI! Amanda here again. Well, we made it to Wednesday without any major injuries, so far, huh?

    I got a few private emails asking me about my flip comment from Monday’s post.

    You know, when I said that Zach “bribed” me to go on a date. You want details, details, details, so I asked Lynn how much I could tell you without ruining things. I mean, the book isn’t published yet, may never be — but a few “peeps” have shown interest in the story so we’ll see what happens.

    Anyway . . . Here’s the story, at least as much as Lynn would let me tell you. It’s kinda funny, actually.

    So, like, I’m not the easiest person to hang around. People tend to get hurt around me, or frozen, so I kinda keep my distance from people for the most part. Especially because I can’t keep the freezing-thing under control very well yet.

    But when you have someone like Zach chasin’ after you, yeah, you just gotta stop and see what happens.

    I was sitting in detention one day-yeah, it happens a little more often than it probably should-and Zach comes sauntering in. He practically had a golden light shining over him he looked so good.

    I managed to NOT turn the room into an igloo, but then after detention, he chased me down in the hallway on my way to my next class. I was bookin’ it pretty fast too. My best friend, Georgia, was in my next class, and I couldn’t wait to tell her about Zach being in detention with me.

    So, for a guy who never talked to me or gave me a second glance was chasing me down the hall talking to me. Of course I freaked. I was more worried about turning him into an ice sculpture than anything, so I brushed him off with a pithy remark.

    Yeah, surprised him too. He wasn’t used to girls brushing him off like I did.

    Later, I was runnin’ late to class and he found me in the hallway. . . and here’s what Lynn said I could share

    “Don’t worry, I have a couple passes.” He reached into his back pocket and pulled out two slips of blue paper.

    “You just have passes laying around?” Oh, I so have to get to know him better. I had no idea he was so devious.

    He waved the thin piece of paper in front of me. “I’ll give it to you on one condition.”

    “What?”

    “Java Joes. Friday night. Seven o’clock.”

    “Is this how you get all your dates? Bribery?” Oh, I was on a roll with this guy. I couldn’t suppress the smile creeping across my face. Go out with Zach? Me? Oh man . . . .

    “No. I usually don’t need a bribe. You’re being especially difficult.”

    ~~~
    Sure, I could have not shown up for the bribe-date, but I was curious. Oh boy, am I glad I did . . . but I can’t share what happens. You’ll have to “buy the book.” ☺
