THEN AND NOW THURSDAY

Bikes…remember that old banana seat?

Ok, most of you know I like to road bike. Give me bunch of water bottles strapped to my bike and warm, sunny day, and I’ll ride forever.

Well … not forever, but you know what I mean.

So, what better to do Then and Now Thursdays, right? Because, remember that bike you rode growing up?

Oh, mine was Yellow, though. And had some flowers on the big seat, I think.

No frills from the handlebars, though.

I found a picture of an older Raleigh bike. vintage-road-bike I never had one that looked like that, but you know, they’re makin’ a come back, you know?

But NOW,

Oh boy. The technology has changed. It’s all about how light the bike is, things like that.

There’s even something called a time trial bike.

Way sleek and ergonomic so you’re in the best position to get the most power. time-trial-bike

To tell you the truth, I never liked biking until about a year or so ago.

I’d been big into inline speed-skating and was told I should “cross-train” with a road bike.

I begrudgingly did…then totally fell for it.

So, what kind of bike did you have growin’ up?

I won, yes — won a Murray Street Machine dirt bike when I was 11 years old. The funny thing about it was my mom had just bought me a Huffy 10-speed (and man was it cool!) about three months earlier.

I couldn’t bear to part with either. But to this day, I still have the 10-speed.

Mine was yellow, no basket, but at once I might have had a basket, but the tomboy in me ripped it off, along with the ribbons. LOL. I wasn’t quite the tomboy like JC to go the BMX route, but hey….it’s all good. I loved my little yellow banana seat bike. Even though I broke my collar bone when I fell off of it….grrrr.

Being the youngest of 4 kids I always got what my sisters and brother got too big for. I do remember thouh, on my 11th birthday, a shiny brand new bike for me in my living room! It was a PUCH and was this beautiful burgundy color. I think I even washed it once a week the first few years I had it.

Hehe, I was a tomboy, so I never had the banna bike. When I was 6, the BMX came out, and the commercials showed boys riding it with one foot on the seat and one on the bar. I wanted that bike sooooo bad. On my Seventh birthday, I discovered it in my living room!

I had to put it in the street while I stood on the curb just to be able to mount it. It was awesome!
