WINNING MOMENTS

As you know, my husband and I are sports fans. Specifically, Charlie’s a HUGE Iowa Hawkeye fan. We were on our drive home from Sedona, AZ Saturday when the call came in from my dad. “Iowa Won! Iowa Won!”

Iowa pulled off a monster upset when they beat Penn State last weekend. Penn State was rated third in the country making Iowa the underdog. So, when Iowa won in a last second field goal, the crowd stormed the field.

The Dictionary defines “WIN” as: be successful or victorious in (a contest or conflict). Now that could mean different things. Right? It could mean something in sports or just life in general.

For me, I’d say I’ve had quite a few winning moments in my life, but here are two:

First was when I was in fifth grade. I played second base in little league softball and did an unassisted triple play. YEP, can you believe it? I don’t even remember if our team even WON the game or not, but all I know is that I caught a fly ball, stepped on second base, and then tagged the girl who still ran from first to second despite my catching the ball (dahhhh, I know). It was SWEET!

Second was when I married Charlie 12 years and 3 months ago). You might say, “that wasn’t a WIN according to the dictionary,” but like I said, winning at something is different for everyone. Despite my being a sports junky, my “wins” aren’t always sports related.

So, what’s been a winningest moment in your life? I’d love to hear it.

Kat, yeah, that game was pretty good. Sorry ’bout your season being shot to heck. LOL. I’ve read some of your writing, I can see why you’re hired as a full time writer, girl. Your words are amazing.

Billy, Yeah, I’d say that’s fantastic..I bet it was just when you needed to see that piece of paper, right? 🙂

Avily. Wow, three kids, no drugs. My hats off. I have no kids, but I hear doing it without drugs is next to impossible. Keep pressing on to publication. God’s will, God’s timeframe.

    Hm. Winning moments.

I delivered three children at home with no drugs- that was something I always wanted to do when I had kids, and I did it.

I’ve completed three novels- a partial win that will be complete if I ever get published.

I’ve stayed married for over six years and am still in love AND like with my husband. That’s about as big a win as anything. 🙂

My winningest moment? Last Thursday, when a piece of paper my daughter had written fell out of my notebook. “World’s Best Dady,” it said. And I had a lot of competition.

I about fell off my chair when my brother-in-law told me Iowa beat Penn State. My college football season is all shot to heck now. I wanted to see Texas and Penn State in the BCS championship, but I doubt that’s going to happen now.

Oh well. My Huskers are successfully rebuilding under Pelini, I’m good.

My winningest moment? Probably when I was hired to be a full-time writer.
